Located high above
the town of Ampuis and the Rh?ne River, Domaine Jamet produces tiny quantities
of stunning C?te-R?tie. The work
is divided between the two brothers, and over the past fifteen years Jean-Luc
and Jean-Paul have done much to improve estate.
The cave is now completely gravity fed, allowing them to make their wine
without pushing the fruit or pumping the juice. The Jamets have 6 hectares
of vines averaging between 25 and 50 years old, and 3 more hectares of young
vines recently planted. Yields
are kept consistently low (35 hecto/ hectare), with 75% of fruit coming from the
C?te Brune and 25% from the C?te Blonde.
"Jamet remains one of the most
reliable as well as underrated Cote Rotie producers. The quintessential
practitioner of artisanal/traditional winemaking, there is no destemming, and
only 20% new oak is utilized. Sadly only 30,000 bottles are produced from the 15
acres farmed by the Jamet brothers." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Cote Rotie
2001 $79.99
"Concentrated as well as aromatic, the 2001 Cote Rotie offers up scents of wild
game, roasted meats, animal fur, berry fruit, and mountain flowers. Full-bodied,
thick, concentrated, and tannic, it cuts a broad swath across the palate with a
wealth of extract, glycerin, and fruit. This is a serious Cote Rotie. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015." 92-94 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #147
2000 $74.99
"The 2000 Cote Rotie is a full-throttle, slightly monolithic, but dense, chewy
offering possessing a deep ruby/purple color in addition to big, meaty,
herb-tinged, cassis, blackberry, smoky flavors with underlying notes of dried
herbs and tar. Surprisingly muscular and dense, it is one of the few 2000 Cote
Roties that will require 2-3 years of cellaring. It should last for 12-15 years." 90 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #147
1999 inquire
"
The profound 1999 Cote Rotie is the finest I have ever tasted from Jamet. It is
even better from bottle than it was from cask. There are 25,000 bottles of this
saturated ruby/purple-colored effort. It possesses a striking perfume of roasted
meats, violets, graphite, blackberries, raspberries, and cherry liqueur. The
wine is smoky, intense, full-bodied, muscular, concentrated, layered, and
dominated by ripe fruit, with the tannin well-hidden by the wealth of extract,
glycerin, and fruit. It will be at its finest between 2004-2020." 96 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #140
1990 $99.99 very limited
"One of my favorite Cote Rotie producers, Jamet is making splendidly concentrated
wines that in the top vintages can last for several decades. The greatest wine I
ever tasted from Jamet is his 1988. The
1990 is dense and tannic, deep, rich, and successful for the vintage, it ranks
behind the Cote Roties Jamet produced in 1988, 1989, and 1991. Anticipated
maturity: 1996-2007." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #84
