During
the late 1980's, Alvaro Palacios traveled his native Spain selling French wine
barrels and other winemaking supplies. But selling barrels wasn't the only thing
on his mind; he was also in search of the best place to achieve his goal of
making Spain's greatest red wine. His ultimate decision to settle in Priorat in
1990, was a good one, for here he would achieve worldwide fame with "L'Ermita"
and "Finca Dofi."
"Established
in 1989, this has become one of the reference point wineries for the exciting
Priorat appellation." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Priorat la Terrasses
Alvaro Palacios cut back his production by 30% in order to make the wine more
concentrated and creamy, amplifying the old vine intensity. With impressive
structure and tremendous richness, this will easily age for a decade, while
providing pleasurable drinking immediately.

"(made from estate grapes that did not make it into Alvaro Palacios'
L'Ermita or Finca Dofi, plus purchased Garnacha and Cari?ena) Black
fruits, licorice and tarry oak on the warm nose. Dense, sweet and full, with
wild, superripe fruit flavors. Has a distinctly warm aspect but this harmonious
blend also boasts plenty of character. Perhaps the best vintage yet for this
wine." 90 Steve Tanzer,
International Wine Cellar 7/8-03
"Fashioned from tiny yields of 20 hl/ha, aged in 100% new French oak. A
blend of 60% Grenache and the rest Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and
Merlot, it appears to be the finest vintage of this cuvee I have yet tasted.
Inky purple to the rim with a sweet nose of creme de cassis, blacxkberries,
minerals and a hint of acacia flowers, this intense, opulent, full bodied,
seamless 2001 is already accessible. It can be drunk young or cellared for 12-13
years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #152
Rioja
H. Remondo Propriedad - SOLD OUT
Cocoa, cedar and tobacco, together
with cherries, raspberry jam and Mediterranean herbs together make up the
marvelous complex aroma of this wine. Toffee and impeccably clean toast flavors
are the result of careful ageing in new casks. On the palate, its taste
impresses for its dimension and sensation of freshness and elegance. With strong
tannins and acidity, this wine has the potential for considerable ageing. Its
texture on the palate, giving a sensation of red fruit pulp, accompanied by
hints of currants, orange peel and herbs, is always marked by that light mineral
and ferrous tinge that is the trade mark of the red clay soil in the Herencia
Remondo vineyards.

"From
this bodega's oldest vines; a blend of 40% each garnacha and
tempranillo and 10% each graciano and mazuelo) Black cherry, licorice,
menthol and tarry oak on the very ripe nose. Juicy and bright, with
oaky flavors of raspberry, black cherry, menthol, iron and tobacco.
Rather Graves-like in character. Finishes with firm tannic spine and
excellent grip. " 90 Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

Rioja
la Montesa
Harmonious and clean
aroma, with cherry, strawberry and cocoa nuances layered with hints of orange
peel. Twelve months in new casks prolong its aftertaste and enrich its complex
aroma with subtle notes of cedar, rosemary flowers, and caramel cream.
2000 $12.99
"Full medium red.
Slightly roasted, low-toned raspberry aroma showed a bit more lift as the wine
opened in the glass. Then fat and rich, with attractive, liqueur-like red fruit
flavors. ...nicely balanced and satisfying, with sound acidity and firm tannins."

Rioja
la Vendimia
A deliciously penetrating
aroma, impeccably generous, transmitting extremely fruity sensations of
blackberries and ripe plums together with violets and exotic flowers. The
eucalyptus and light toasting reveal its brief period in new oak casks. On the
palate, its body is particularly impressive with a taste of raspberries and
licorice.

"Bright ruby-red. Black
cherry, menthol and a hint of tar on the nose. Soft, smooth and sweet; very
easygoing Rioja with modest complexity and grip. Finishes with firm, dusty
tannins." Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 7/8/03
Rioja Placet
Sports an
intense clean aroma of great depth and grace. Hints of apricot peel, cumin, ripe
white fruit, quince and acacia make up its delicious complexity. On the palate,
its fullness and volume give the sensation of ripe fruit, but at the same time
it is extremely lively and refreshing. Good acidity produces a long clean,
finish.
