AUSTRALIAN DOMAINE WINES
At present, ADW has a number wines under it?s banner. The Hattrick (McLaren Vale Grenache, Shiraz & Cabernet) is a true example of the premium blenders art. The "Sheeraz" (Limestone Coast Shiraz) is a varietal statement about the powerful, natural essence of Australian Shiraz. Both are fruit first styles that will complex with age. ADW's 'Alliance' range includes a Shiraz, a Grenache and a Cabernet Merlot blend. These wines are the result of 'alliances' formed with growers and makers from prime South Australian wine regions (Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and now Langhorne Creek principally). These are fruit dominant, flavor-forward styles that are ready for the table at release and will keep for the medium term. For those with an even keener eye for value there is Barossa Nova. This Barossa Valley Shiraz is a soft, early drinking style that shows harmonious fruit with a touch of oak treatment to round off a smooth palate.
The Hattrick
This is the fifth consecutive release of THE flagship three-grape blend red, The Hattrick. It once again shows the outstanding natural talents of McLaren Vale grower/winemaker Tony DeLisio. The 2001 Hattrick is a blend of 50% Shiraz, 43% Grenache and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced primarily from the Mark Woods Old Estate, just north of the township of McLaren Vale. To supplement the best of his own fruit, and to enhance complexity, Tony sourced carefully managed, select parcels from a small clutch of vineyards with some of the best old vines in the region. The Shiraz and Cabernet components went to mainly new French with some American Oak whilst the Grenache saw mainly second and third use French and American Oak. As these wines developed in oak, particular barrels were selected for blending based on what they could contribute to the already evolved Hattrick style. The 2001 Grenache was beautifully soft and aromatic overall, whilst the Shiraz showed power and length and the Cabernet a pure varietal structure with character and firmness. Fruit purity and power are apt descriptions for the 2001 Hattrick, which shows the opulent complexity that is central to the established style. This is another high-octane Hattrick that exudes sweet black fruit, chocolate and spice with a palate coating finish. It will gain complexity over the next 10 years.
2001 sold out
"The most serious effort from this estate, as well as the most expensive, is the 2001 The Hattrick, a blend of 50% Shiraz, 43% Grenache, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. It possesses a deep ruby/purple color, tremendous fruit, a flowery component on the palate, and surprising elegance as well as definition. Although it sees 70% new oak (mostly French), the wood is well-integrated. Drink it over the next 7-10 years." 91 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #148
