BROTHERS in ARMS
The
family of brothers Guy and Tom Adams have farmed the famed Metala property
situated on the floodplains of Langhorne Creek, for over 100 years. The original
vineyard was planted back in 1891, making it one of the oldest in the region.
These vines, still productive today, are producing some of the most sought after
fruit grown in South Australia. The vineyard has grown considerably to its
current size over the intervening period, with vines aged anywhere from current
plantings to 110 years. There is certainly an exciting future ahead for Brothers
In Arms, with so many blocks of outstanding fruit to select from. Talented
winemaker David Freschi has brought his knowledge and skills to the design of
this facility from its inception and is responsible for the 2002 Vintage.
"This
relatively new operation was formed by growers who got tired of seeing
their grapes made into wines that fetched high prices and received top
awards when made by other wineries." Robert Parker

Shiraz
This is an explosive shiraz
packed with powerful fruit. It shows a very deep crimson color, with black
heart. The aroma displays complexity with spice, vanilla, blackberry and dark
chocolate nuances with underlying licorice tones. The palate is multi-layered,
with wonderful balance between intense ripe fruit, fine tannins and acidity. Its
abundance of flavor, velvety tannins and long, well-rounded mouthfeel gives it
approachability, but also allows a wine of longevity greater than 10 years.

"More backward as well as more concentrated and layered than the 2000, with
additional up-side potential, the 2001 Shiraz reveals a dense inky purple color
along with a pretty nose of vanilla interwoven with acacia flowers,
blackberries, and licorice. Full-bodied and opulent with a structure not
dissimilar to some 2002s, give it 1-2 years of cellaring, and drink it over the
following 12-15." 91 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #148
"Intriguing
aromas of currant, pepper, mocha and spices, all lifted by a rose petal
perfume. Dry, intensely flavored and quite primary; a bit dominated by
its structure today. Dense and saline wine with impressive
concentration. Chewy finish features sweet tannins and excellent
length. Give this very young shiraz time in a decanter if you plan to
open it anytime soon. " 90 Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 7/8-04
