SHIRVINGTON
In 1996
the Shirvington Family purchased 16 hectares of prime land in Willunga, South
Australia. After extensive researching and touring of Australia?s major wine
regions, this area was chosen for its ability to consistently produce
outstanding table wines of great character and quality. Willunga is just south
of McLaren Vale on the Fleurieu Peninsula, an area internationally renowned for
its red wine, in particular Shiraz. In the winter
of 1996, work began on the development of the first vineyard, Redwind. Further
purchases in 1997 and 2001 saw the development of two new vineyards, Kurrawyba
and Manjalda, in McLaren Flat and McLaren Vale. Working
closely with viticulturist Peter Bolte and winemakers Sarah and Sparky Marquis,
the quality of fruit was such that the first commercial release, the 2001
Cabernet Sauvignon, was awarded Wine of the Year at the prestigious McLaren Vale
Wine Show.

Cabernet
Sauvignon
2002
sold out
"There are
about 500 cases of the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, which was aged in both American
and French wood (one-half new). The Screaming Eagle of South Australia, it
possesses great purity, layers of fruit, enormous volume and intensity, and at
the same time, it is strikingly elegant and well-proportioned. This stunningly
pure Cabernet tastes like pure creme de cassis intermixed with licorice and oak.
It should drink well for 15-16 years, but who will be able to hold onto it that
long?" 96 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #148
Shiraz
2002
sold out
"The nearly
perfect 2002 Shiraz is the stuff of legends. It is a 1,000 case cuvee that has
been completely fermented and aged in 100% new American oak. An inky purple
color is accompanied by a remarkable bouquet of white flowers intermixed with
melted licorice, blackberries, currants, figs, and espresso roast. Extremely
full-bodied, with extraordinary ripeness, opulence, and viscosity, yet very good
acidity as well as excellent tannin providing up-lift and definition, this
unforgettable wine can be drunk now or cellared for a decade or more.
Bravo!" 99 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #148
