Ian Rathjen , owner of Whistling Eagle Vineyards is obsessed with producing extraordinary shiraz from his small family vineyard in Heathcote, Victoria. The 1999 vintage produced one barrel, with the 2000 Shiraz about double that amount. this will never be anything more than a tin shed, boutique operation. David Anderson (Wild Duck Creek) has fashioned three vintages of near perfect shiraz in the mold of his cult classic Duck Muck. Whistling Eagle will emerge as a new cult benchmark Shiraz and some big price raises in the future can be expected.
