Roc de Cambes Print E-mail

1999 $42.99 available
"Medium ruby. Cherry, raspberry liqueur, licorice, smoky oak and an herbal note on the nose. Fat, sweet and creamy; more confectionery today than Francois Mitjavile '99 Tertre Roteboeuf but quite fresh for the year. Finishes with dusty, even tannins. 89-90
Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 5/6-01
"Notes of ripe cherries, prunes, toasty new oak, and caramel jump from the glass of this Merlot-based, fleshy, expansive, seamless 1999. It should be drunk over the next 6-7 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #140

1998 $47.99 available
"This wine performed significantly better than it did last year. This sleeper of the vintage merits considerable interest. This is the finest Roc de Cambes produced since their terrific 1990. Proprietor Mitjavile Cotes de Bourg estate (he is also the proprietor of Le Tertre Roteboeuf) has produced an exotic, flamboyant, explosively rich 1998. It boasts dazzling aromatics of coffee, jammy berry fruit, incense, fudge, and spice. This hedonistic effort reveals no hard edges, a seamless texture, and plenty of juicy, succulent fruit. It is impossible to resist. Drink it over the next 7-8 years." 91

1997 $39.99 limited
"Deep ruby-red. Distinctly roasted, slightly raisiny aromas of surmaturite reminded me of a Chateauneuf du Pape from Henri Bonneau. Thick, sweet and exotic, but not as creamy or voluptuous as the '98. Still, this has noteworthy density for the vintage. Finishes with chewy, more present tannins and a note of cocoa.
" Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 5/6-99

1996 $34.99 limited
"The undisputed leader from the Cotes de Bourg appellation, Roc de Cambes continues to turn out delicious, chocolate-scented and flavored wines. I had a magnum of 1989 at my favorite Hong Kong-styled Chinese restaurant in Washington, DC in mid-February, and it continues to sing. The dark ruby-colored 1996 Roc de Cambes offers up a sweet, mocha, chocolatey nose with ripe berry fruit in the background. Although not complex, it is soft, velvety-textured, medium to full-bodied, and a delicious, hedonistically-styled wine that should continue to drink well for 5-6 years."
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #122
