Kurt and Rob Widmer brewed the first American-Style Hefeweizen in 1986. 
Hefeweizen is German for yeast-wheat, a name derived from the suspended yeast and the use of malted wheat as a brewing ingredient.  Widmer Hefeweizen is left in its natural, unfiltered state to retain pronounced citrus and floral aromas, complex flavors and a crisp, refreshing finish. This beer is a 1998 and 2006 GABF Gold Medal Award Winner and a 2004 Gold Medal Beer Cup.
