Dominique Laurent is a small, n?gociant located in Nuits-St-Georges. Sourced from very old parcels, his offerings range up and down the Cote d'Or, with dozens and dozens of different appellations often offered in minuscule quantities of 25 or 50 cases of wine. He believes in disturbing the wines as little as possible. All work including bottling is done by hand-- no pumps, no filtration. Laurent's acumen in searching out fabulous examples of each appellation has certainly been the engine that has driven Laurent's top quality train.

''Dominique Laurent is producing some of Burgundy's finest red wines...He has created, in a few short years a n?gociant firm whose spectacular wines sell out on a pre-arrival basis...before any reviews can be published!" The Wine Advocate

GRAND CRU

Clos de Beze 1997 $179.99 very limited
"A multifaceted, complex and impressive Pinot Noir. Vanilla and mocha aromas are the first impressions in this deep and full-bodied wine, followed by a velvety mouthfeel, with clean and pure red berry and blackberry notes and a citrusy undertow. Sweet tannins on the succulent finish. Drink now through 2010." A multifaceted, complex and impressive Pinot Noir. Vanilla and mocha aromas are the first impressions in this deep and full-bodied wine, followed by a velvety mouthfeel, with clean and pure red berry and blackberry notes and a citrusy undertow. Sweet tannins on the succulent finish. Drink now through 2010." 95 Wine Spectator Web
"Crafted from some of the oldest vines in Chambertin Clos de Beze, Dominique Laurent chose to use his well-publicized 200% new oak technique on his 1997 (as with all his grand crus). Super-ripe red fruits, immersed in perfume, are found in this blockbuster's aromatics. It is a massive, extraordinarily deep, powerful, and medium to full-bodied wine. Highly detailed, elegant, precise, and pure, it regales the palate with fresh red fruits, immersed in toasty vanilla imbued oak. Projected maturity: 2002-2012." 93-95 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #125

Charmes Chambertin
1996 $149.99 very limited
1997 $129.99 limited
"The medium to dark ruby-colored 1997 Charmes-Chambertin offers aromas reminiscent of grilled oak covered in cherry juice. Velvety textured, medium to full-bodied, and gorgeously ripe, this blackberry and red currant liqueur-flavored offering is a sultry and sensual wine. It has no hard edges, is delightfully pure and supple, and reveals a long, satin-laced finish. Drink it over the next 8-9 years." 91-93 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #125
"Beautiful from start to finish. Warm and full-bodied, velvety and focused, showing a myriad of flavors (cassis, blackberry, wild raspberry), with subtle mocha and spice. Remains clean, pure and long to the very end. Drink now through 2010." 94 Wine Spectator Web

1998 $119.99 limited

Clos de la Roche 1996 $84.99 very limited

Clos Vougeot
1997 $134.99 limited
"Exuberant and full-bodied, with beautiful wet earth, crushed blackberry, mocha and spice. Wonderful midpalate ripeness folds into the slightly tough finish. Best from 2002 through 2007." 90 Wine Spectator Web

1998 $139.99 limited
"Deep red. Sappy aroma of spicy cherry shows ripeness just short of surmaturite. Great sweetness and ripeness in the mouth, but supported by sound acids; in fact, this boasts a near-perfect combination of sugars and acids. The powerful underlying structure and huge but sweet tannins are thoroughly buffered by sheer material. Has real grand cru class.
" 92-94 Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 3-4/00

Mazis Chambertin Cuvee A
1995
$106.99 very limited
"Dominique Laurent acquires two separate Mazis-Chambertins which he does not blend because he believes they are so different. Aromatically, the medium-to-dark ruby-colored Mazis-Chambertin Cuvee A reveals roasted herb and mocha scents. This full-bodied, thick wine is highly structured and possesses attractive flavors of raspberries, and black cherries. Copious quantities of tannin can be discerned in its remarkably long, well-defined finish. Projected maturity: 2003-2012." 92-95 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #111
1996 $104.99 very limited
"Knockout nose combines smoky raspberry, roasted coffee, venison and black pepper. Huge, silky and powerful, with great depth of texture and flavor. Strong impression of terroir. The tannins are firm but hit the palate very late. Terrific, subtle finishing flavor. Not as immediately likeable as the Charmes, but this will be superb. 93-96
Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 3/4-98

Grands Echezeaux 1997 $219.99 very limited
"A fantastic Pinot Noir. Thick and dense yet fresh and elegant, aromatically shy now, but delivering mocha, spice, blackberry, black cherry, wet earth and mineral layers, with a super supple texture. Smooth and attractive on the lingering, chewy finish. Great achievement in '97. Best from 2005 through 2015." 96 The Wine Spectator Web
"The medium to dark ruby-colored 1997 Grands-Echezeaux boasts an over-ripe, red fruit-laden nose. This full-bodied, massive, thick, and opulent wine is densely packed with mocha-covered cherries... Drink it over the next decade." 89-92 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #125

PREMIER CRU

Fixin Hervelets 97 $54.99 limited
"The delicious 1997 Fixin Les Hervelets is ruby-colored and reveals smoked bacon and blackberry aromas. It is a medium-bodied, balanced, refined wine with delineated black cherry and road tar flavors. Impressively, none of Fixin's rusticity is evident in its well-crafted, satiny character or finish. Projected maturity: 2001-2009+." 89-91 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #125
Fixin Perriere 97 $64.99 very limited
"The ruby-colored 1997 Fixin Clos Perrieres is sweet, ripe, and an unusual red Burgundy. Crafted from grapes harvested at 15.5% natural potential alcohol (possibly never before seen in Burgundy), it displays a jammy, fig, prune, spice, and violet-laden nose. This weighty monster is thickly textured and crammed with hoisin, road tar, and licorice flavors. Laurent's belief is that this wine will not attain its peak of maturity until at least 35 years. Presently, it tastes like a late-harvest Pinot Noir vinified dry. Its high level of alcohol is buried under layers and layers of fruit. No warmth can be detected in its attack, mid-palate, or finish. Simply put, it is a mouth-coating, delicious freak of nature. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012+." 90-92 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #125

Beaune Premier Cru Vieilles Vignes 1995 $47.99 very limited

Beaune Greves
1997 $69.99 limited
"The medium-to-dark ruby-colored 1997 Beaune Greves (described by Laurent as a Tardieu-Laurent Cote Rotie look-alike), has a cassis and black raspberry-dominated nose. This medium-to-full-bodied wine exhibits huge ripeness in its opulent, sultry core of fat red/black fruits. A sexy hedonistic fruit bomb, it should be drunk over the next decade." 89-92 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #125
"This gorgeous '97 shows toasted mocha, plum, black cherry and smoky tar notes, all coming together in this sleek yet rich wine. Impressive balance, sweet tannins and a long, clean finish. Drink now through 2005." 91 The Wine Spectator 9/30/99

1998 $79.99 available
"Deep, bright red-ruby. Raspberry, smoke and earth on the complex nose. More structure and power here, but also quite stylish, with high-pitched fruit enlivened by racy acidity. Not as pliant as the above. Youthful finish features mounting tannins. 88-91
Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 3/4-00

Chambolle Musigny Beaux Bruns 1996 $59.99 very limited

Chambolle Musigny les Charmes
1995 $85.99 very limited
1998 $86.99 limited
"Bright medium red. Perfumed, musky aromas of red fruits, coffee and oak spice. Silky and gentle on the palate, with lovely red fruit intensity and firm supporting minerality. Very youthful but already wonderfully pliant. Mounts slowly on the long aftertaste. 90-92 Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques
1997 $84.99 limited
"The ruby-colored 1997 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux-St.-Jacques offers blackberry and blueberry scents. This feminine, elegant, broad, and harmonious wine reveals flavors reminiscent of wild strawberries, caramel, and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, well-balanced, structured, and satin-textured, it should be at its peak of maturity between 2002-2010." 90-92 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #125
1998 $79.99 limited
"Bright, full red. Exotic aromas of pungent raspberry, gibier, violet and bitter chocolate (Laurent says the torrefaction aspect is a result of the very late malolactic fermentation). Highly concentrated, sappy red fruit and spice flavors don't yet show the personality displayed by the
Cazatieres but are juicy and nicely defined. Finishes with fine tannins and excellent length. Another gently extracted '98. 90-93 Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 3/4-00

Nuits St Georges Argillieres
1995 $61.99 limited
"The medium ruby-colored Nuits-St.-Georges Les Argillieres possessed a muted, unyielding nose the day of my tasting but, on its medium-to-full-bodied and velvety palate, it revealed beautifully ripe, sweet cherries intermingled with crisp currants and an elegant yet tannic and oaky finish. Its copious quantities of lush fruit will outlive the tannins. Projected maturity: 2003-2008." 90-93 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #111
1996 $49.99 very limited

Nuits St Georges Chaignots 1996 $49.99 very limited
"Deep ruby-red. Spicy, floral aromas of blackberry and violet; seems more Vosne than Nuits. Very sweet but very fresh in the mouth; not a wine of major volume but penetrating, pure and delineated. Long, firm, fresh aftertaste features lovely restrained sweetness. 89-91
Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 3/4-98

Nuits St Georges Pruliers 1996 $59.99 very limited
"Superripe yet noble aromas of crystallized berries and iron (this wine is usually less ripe than his other Nuits premier crus, says Laurent, but not in '96). Terrific vinosity on the palate; offers almost Medoc-like blackcurrant and tobacco flavors. Fat and sweet; not quite as delineated as the Chaignots but bigger, broader. Finishes very long, with strong tannins and a faint metallic edge. 90-92
Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 3/4-98

1997 $54.99 limited
"Thick and ripe, with a lovely mocha, toasted oak, spice and chocolate character backing up the black cherry flavors. Well made, as the fruit balances out the wood; cellaring will help smooth the massive tannins. Best from 2002 through 2007." The Wine Spectator 9/30/99
