"Burgundy aficionados and
neophytes who are shocked at the high prices demanded by this region's top wines
should search out Morot's offerings. They are delicious, supple yet structured,
powerful and elegant expressions of Pinot Noir. Moreover, they are respectful to
their respective terroirs - and are great values! These wines, which can be
drunk young, can also age well, as was demonstrated by two superb 1983s (Beaune
Bressandes and Beaune Cent Vignes) I recently tasted. Mademoiselle
Chopin, the estate's owner and manager, has fashioned a first rate line-up of
wines from the hillside vineyards overlooking the town of Beaune. Young women in
Burgundy owe a great deal to the efforts of this lady who has made superb
Beaune's in the cold and damp cellars of her beautiful old home. There was a
time when winemaking was considered a man's job, yet Mlle. Chopin's track record
over the years - in many vintages crafting the finest wines from Beaune's
hillsides - has proved that a woman's place can be the cellar. Due to her severe
pruning and green harvesting, Mlle. Chopin's vineyards yielded between 30 and 35
hectoliters/hectare, admirable figures in any vintage, they are superb in this
one. Domaine Albert Morot's vineyards tend to average between 40-50 years of
age" The Wine Advocate
Beaune Toussaints
1999???????
$35.99??? ??? limited
"The medium ruby-colored 1999 Beaune Toussaints has zesty, spicy,
blackberry aromas. This broad, plump, deep wine is medium-bodied and loaded with
fruit. Candied cherries and assorted spices can be found throughout its
character. It has a firm structure, but appears to possess the requisite fruit.
Projected maturity: now-2007." 88-90 Robert Parker, The Wine

conveys a strong impression of soil. Sweet, lush and seamless, but given clarity

smoke." 90 Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 3/4-02

"The 2001 Beaune Bressandes is a
powerfully-constructed, extracted, and concentrated effort loaded with dense
black fruits. Its intense blackberry and black cherry aromas lead to a core of
super-ripe cassis and blackberries whose flavors linger throughout its long,
palate-staining finish. Drink it between 2004 and 2010." 89-90

"Medium red-ruby. Rich, vinous aromas of black raspberry and smoky oak.
Sweet and supple, with a silky, palate-caressing texture, good vinosity and

tobacco on the end." Steve

Beaune Teurons

"The 1997 Beaune Teurons reveals spicy blackberry scents, and offers a
mouthful of highly expressive sur-maturite-laced blackberries and cassis. This
explosive, fruit-packed, medium to full-bodied wine has excellent purity and
precision, yet is dense, thick, and powerfully flavored, Projected maturity:
2000-2007.Mlle. Chopin has every reason to be proud of her delicious 1997s.
Yields were quite moderate, overall averaging 28 h/h, with a low of 20 h/h on
the Beaune Marconnets, and none of the 1997s were chaptalized." 90-92
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate? #125
"Good dark red. Cooler aromas of black cherry, blackberry,
spice and menthol; not nearly as roasted as many of the Morot '97s. Thick and
highly concentrated but fresh, delineated and light on its feet. Very dense and
powerfully structured. The longest of Morot '97s, and built for the long haul.
Quite impressive." 91

"Deep ruby-red. Aromas of tiny wild berries, leather and game. Fat, sweet
and layered, but the complex flavors are kept in check by a hint of menthol
austerity. Firm but suave tannins call for at least four or five years of
additional bottle aging. Backward but not at all tough, and ultimately sweet on
the aftertaste." 91(+?) Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

"Bright red-ruby. Deep, pure aromas of cherry, minerals and smoked meat.
The largest, fattest and deepest of these 2000s; rich and expansive, but with
very good vinosity and a serious structure. As usual, the most Gevrey-like of
this set of Beaune wines. Really spreads out and lingers on the lively
finish." 88-91 Steve Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 3/4-02

"The 2001 Beaune Teurons offers
mouth-watering blackberry and blueberry aromas. A masculine, chewy wine, it is a
big, dense offering with deep, concentrated waves of blackberries, cassis, and
jammy grapes. Long-time fans of this estate's wines under the now-retired
Mademoiselle Choppin will not recognize this Teurons's style, crafted by
Choppin's nephew Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry (2000 was his first vintage from
bud-break to harvest). It is more primary, concentrated, and muscular than any
offering Albert Morot has produced in the past. Projected maturity: 2004-2010."
