Domaine Gournier Print E-mail

Domaine Gournier is located in Provence, above the Mediterranean coastline. Situated between Avignon and Nimes this small estate is an example of hands-on winemaking at it's finest. It is here that the landscape begins to offer up the Garrigues, the Provencal name referring to the low limestone hills that are studded with outcroppings of calcareous rock and sparse clumps of wind beaten vegetation. Maurice Barnouioun is by trade is a pepinierist, ( a vine rootstock and clone expert). He was the pioneer in replanting old high-yielding varietals like Carignan with low yielding, intensely flavored vines like Merlot, Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The vines are pruned for low yields, while hand harvesting insures the most stringent selection of grapes.
